Save Our Shelter After COVID19!

Who are we?

Dragos was born in Romania 38 years ago and lives in Bucharest (RO) ever since. Over the years, he found a lot of animals that needed help. He wanted to help them and built a shelter for all the homeless animals that he found. 3 dogs became 10, 10 dogs became 30 and 30 dogs became 110 dogs and 50 cats.

Born in Luxembourg, I decided one year ago, at the age of 26 to leave my life in Luxembourg behind and to go rescue animals in another country. Maybe it was faith that I ended up in Dragos' yard, who needed help exactly at that moment.

Having had a good economical situation, Dragos has built a shelter with all his heart and with all of his private money. For over 5 years he was able to finance this shelter with his own money. Unfortunately Covid19 hit hard and financing the shelter became more and more difficult for him. And that's where destiny lead us together.

Today Dragos' reached a point where he is no longer able to finance the shelter with his own money. We need to leave the place where we currently keep our animals.

What?

We need to build a new shelter to save our animals.

For us, the shelter is way more than a place to keep and feed animals. It has become a home, not only for our animals but also for us. It has become a place where everyone can feel like he belongs somewhere. A place full of love and joy. A place where happiness and sadness are separated by a thin line that gives hope to all of us, including our animals.

Leaving the shelter feels like leaving our home. But as sadness and happiness are separated by a thin line, we believe that this sad event will open up new doors to a happier and better future! We are not losing our home, we are building a better home! We are building a new shelter! We want to build a shelter where all of our animals will have enough space. Besides the space in their paddocks, we want to create a playground, where the dogs can run free and play every day. This playground should also be used as a place where they can meet new dogs, socialize and cuddle. Bucharest is a very warm city in the summer months. A pool to cool down and to swim would make every dog heart beat faster! On the other hand, winter months can be rough here, which means that a simple dog house is not enough to make our babies feel comfortable. We want to build containers for them, where they will be protected from the cold and from the rain. Not all of our babies are lucky enough to find a home which is why we want to give them a chance to find out what a warm and dry place to live looks like.

When?

The building starts now! With the selling of Dragos' las bar, a big part of the cats will lose their place to live, which means that we have to start building the first paddocks now. Until the 15th of september, we need to leave our current shelter, this means that we need to finish the building until the 15.09.

Where?

Tunari is where it all started and Tunari is where it shall live on! We will not move far away from our current shelter!

Why?

300 saved animals until now are still not enough to make Tunari a place without suffering. We continue finding dogs in need, abandoned puppies, injured dogs or pregnant females on the streets. While our first step is to make Tunari a safe place for animals, our long term project would be to raise awareness in Romania and to educate people about the benefits of spaying. Nevertheless, without a shelter none of this can even start. This means that the first step for a better world for animals in Romania is a new shelter.
