Save Our Sisters March

Justice Alito's draft opinion to overturn Roe is a disgrace to our sisters, our court, and our country. I will not sit back quietly and allow this regressive decision to become law without trying anything within my power to express my discontent. My plan is to march to Washington, D.C. with as few or as many people as possible to have my voice be heard in our nation's capitol.

 

While the march to D.C. may be in vain, this GoFundMe will not be. I plan to raise money during this march for The Brigid Alliance, a nonprofit organization that helps people in need of abortion care with travel expenses, amenities, and necessary support to find the care they need. The average client of The Brigid Alliance travels over 1,200 miles for abortion care and the cost typically exceeds $1,000 per patient. I hope to raise $20,022 for this nonprofit by the time my feet reach Washington.

 

Why $20,022? Because a vocal minority of this country has seemed to forget what year we are living in.

 

100% of the money raised from this GoFundMe will go directly to The Brigid Alliance. I don't have to write a check at the end of the fundraiser and no funds go into any bank account controlled by me. I personally have no monetary gain from this walk.

 

The Supreme Court has never overturned precedent in order to take away civil rights from a protected class of citizens. This draft opinion could cause an avalanche of related backward-looking decisions in the near future and would be disastrous for our country moving forward.

 

We must do something when faced with injustice and while there may be better alternatives to this march, it's the best I can come up with on such short notice. I'll leave you with a quote from John Stuart Mill from his Inaugural address delivered to the University of St. Andrews on February 1st 1867:

 

“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject."
