A VERY UNIQUE STORY WHICH STARTED IN 2022 – An urgent intervention was needed to save the valley

In 2022, a piece of 60 hectare of land was about to be sold to a company that wanted to do commercial agriculture and use the area for hunting. A disaster for the local people who live in harmony with nature, the many animals, and the two streams that run through the valley, filling up the Taibilla water reservoir that provides drinking water for Murcia and Carthagena.

We, non-profit organization In line with nature, helped our neighbors to set up a crowdfunding and we created a video to collect funds. Shortly after this, the neighbors were told that the sellers already had accepted a legally binding down payment and there was no going back, so our neighbors refunded all the donations. They thought there was nothing more they could do.

But nature decided differently...

NATURE WAS ON OUR SIDE

It turned out that before being able to finalise the sale, the owners had to arrange some legal documents, which took them about two years, thanks to the Spanish bureaucratic system. This gave them precious time to think.

WHAT RECENTLY HAPPENED

Beginning of June 2024, the family came to speak with us – Evi and Matthias from In line with nature – personally and we had a beautiful open conversation. They said they had changed their minds about selling to the company. They told us how they always had good connections with the local people and wanted to keep these bonds of affection. They decided to follow their hearts and were even willing to lose the 20.000 euros fine which they would have to pay to the buyers, if they canceled the sale.

WHAT WE DECIDED

We decided to take action and set up this crowdfunding with our non-profit association “In line with nature”. We would like to buy the land via this association, which means it will be owned by no one and it will be protected. This area will be transformed into a luscious forest, including a food forest and natural farming gardens. A natural educational centre for many young people.

A VALLEY WITH A DEEP HISTORY

These days, this valley is on the verge of desertification because agricultural misunderstandings and malpractices. However, the valley has a rich history which can be seen in the very old paintings that can be found high up in the rocks. In ancient times, people did already come to this valley. The question remains if they lived here, or only came to for a while to strengthen, do their rituals and take in the purity of the small rivers that run through it. We feel we need to do what we can to safeguard the purity of this valley and restore its natural habitat, so that people can come again to strengthen, refresh and gain perspective for their own areas.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE FUTURE

If you have a look at our website, you see how much we voluntarily engage in our local communities and environment. We always take action where needed, for the benefit of the whole, and we do what we say.

Our first step is to protect the valley, which will be realized by buying it. The second step is to change this hunting area into a protected area. We will plant many trees, bushes and create water bodies for natural water retention. This will increase biodiversity. Through natural farming we will increase soil life and transform this area into a landscape where nature and people can be together peacefully and many young people can come to learn about natural farming.

UNA HISTORIA MUY ÚNICA QUE COMENZÓ EN 2022 - Era necesaria una intervención urgente para salvar el valle

En 2022, un terreno de 70 hectáreas estaba a punto de ser vendido a una empresa que quería dedicarse a la agricultura comercial y utilizar la zona para la caza. Un desastre para la población local que vive en armonía con la naturaleza, los numerosos animales y los dos arroyos que atraviesan el valle, llenando el depósito de agua del Taibilla que abastece de agua potable a Murcia y Cartagena.

Nosotros, In line with nature, ayudamos a nuestros vecinos a poner en marcha un crowdfunding y creamos un vídeo para recaudar fondos. Poco después, los vecinos recibieron la noticia de que los vendedores ya habían aceptado un pago inicial legalmente vinculante y no había vuelta atrás, así que nuestros vecinos devolvieron todas las donaciones. Pensaron que ya no podían hacer nada más.

Pero la naturaleza decidió otra cosa...

LA NATURALEZA ESTABA DE NUESTRO LADO

Resultó que antes de poder finalizar la venta, los propietarios tuvieron que tramitar algunos documentos legales, lo que les llevó unos dos años, gracias al sistema burocrático español. Esto les dio un tiempo precioso para pensar.

LO QUE HA OCURRIDO RECIENTEMENTE

Hace dos semanas, a principios de junio de 2024, la familia vino a hablar con nosotros - Evi y Matthias de En línea con la naturaleza - personalmente y tuvimos una hermosa conversación abierta. Nos dijeron que habían cambiado de opinión sobre la venta a la empresa. Nos contaron que siempre habían mantenido buenas relaciones con la población local y que querían conservar esos lazos afectivos. Decidieron seguir su corazón e incluso estaban dispuestos a perder los 20.000 euros de multa que tendrían que pagar a los compradores, si cancelaban la venta.

LO QUE DECIDIMOS

Decidimos pasar a la acción y poner en marcha este crowdfunding con nuestra asociación sin ánimo de lucro "En línea con la naturaleza". Queremos comprar el terreno a través de esta asociación, lo que significa que no será propiedad de nadie y estará protegido. Esta zona se transformará en un frondoso bosque, que incluirá un bosque alimentario y huertos agrícolas naturales.

UN VALLE CON UNA PROFUNDA HISTORIA

Hoy en día, este valle está al borde de la desertificación debido a malentendidos y malas prácticas agrícolas. Sin embargo, el valle tiene una rica historia que puede verse en las antiquísimas pinturas que se encuentran en lo alto de las rocas. En la antigüedad, ya había gente en este valle. La cuestión sigue siendo si vivían aquí o sólo venían un tiempo para fortalecerse, hacer sus rituales y disfrutar de la pureza de los pequeños ríos que lo atraviesan. Creemos que debemos hacer lo posible por salvaguardar la pureza de este valle y restaurar su hábitat natural, para que la gente pueda venir de nuevo a fortalecerse, refrescarse y adquirir perspectiva para sus propias zonas.

LO QUE ESTO SIGNIFICA PARA EL FUTURO

Plantaremos muchos árboles, arbustos y crearemos masas de agua para la retención natural del agua. Esto aumentará la biodiversidad. Mediante la agricultura natural aumentaremos la vida del suelo y transformaremos esta zona en un paisaje donde la naturaleza y las personas puedan convivir pacíficamente y muchos jóvenes puedan venir a aprender sobre agricultura natural.
