Support Pollock’s Hardware Co-op
Whether you’re being greeted by the shop cat, buying screws a la carte or getting to know your shopkeepers, shopping at Pollock's Hardware Co-op isn’t your typical experience.
We need your help to keep this important piece of Winnipeg history open and thriving.
The Store
One of Winnipeg's oldest (and coolest) hardware stores, Pollock’s is a North End institution.
Originally opened in 1922, the store thrived through the Great Depression and the decades following. Despite its longstanding status, when the previous owners wanted to retire, Pollock’s almost shuttered for good. But the community saw something worth saving in Pollock’s. In 2008, longtime North Enders and other like-minded people rallied around the shop to turn the store into a co-operative.
For over 10 years Pollock’s Hardware Co-op has employed people in the neighbourhood, stocked and sold specialized and locally focused products and lended its support to other small businesses and local social causes.
Pollock’s needs help
Last year, Pollock’s faced the real possibility of closing down. A group of concerned members felt that with a fresh look at the store’s operations and financial forecasts, there was still hope for Pollock’s to stay open and run profitably. The membership voted overwhelmingly in favour of keeping the store open, and people from across the world offered to send donations.
We are so please to announce that the store is staying OPEN but donations are still very welcome. Any small amount of money helps us to improve cashflow and get the store back on its feet. We want to see Pollock’s celebrate its 100th birthday. Any donation helps make that possible!
