Save Quinn Lake: Legal Fund to Stop the Sale
For nearly 60 years, the Quinn Lake Campground has been more than just a campsite—it’s been a cherished gathering place for families, friends, and entire communities. Generations have camped here, forging lifelong memories, teaching outdoor education, and supporting local businesses.
In 1959, the land was entrusted to the Ontario Teachers' Federation (OTF) with the intent of serving the community and preserving Ontario's natural beauty. Now, without consultation or community input, the OTF has decided to sell Quinn Lake, closing the campground permanently for profit. This decision threatens not only our personal traditions but also the preservation of Ontario’s beautiful natural landscape and raises serious concerns about responsible land stewardship.
This sudden move also impacts local schools, employees, and the economy of nearby communities that rely on the campground’s presence.
How the Funds Will Be Used:
We are raising $50,000 to cover the legal and organizational costs needed to protect our beloved campground.
- Legal Counsel & Representation: $12,000 - To engage legal experts to challenge the sale and explore all legal avenues.
- Co-op and Business Structure Setup: $8,000(Earmarked if Initial Goal Met) - If legal action alone isn’t enough, these funds will support the formation of a community co-op to purchase and manage the campground, ensuring it remains in the hands of those who cherish it.
- Buffer & Unexpected Costs: $5,000 - To cover unexpected legal fees, administrative costs, and community mobilization efforts.
- Additional Funds: After covering legal and operational costs any additional funds will go towards the future collective efforts of acquiring the property.
Why This Matters:
The Quinn Lake Campground has been an integral part of our community for generations. Its closure and sale would not only displace long-standing family traditions but also hurt local schools, employees, and businesses that rely on this space.
Furthermore, the sale of land entrusted to the OTF in 1959 raises concerns about how such lands, intended for public benefit and environmental preservation, are being managed. We believe that this decision reflects a lack of responsible land stewardship and disregards the values that led to the land being gifted in the first place.
How You Can Help:
Every contribution, big or small, will help us fight this decision and protect the campground that means so much to our community. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your networks to help spread the word.
Together, we can Save Quinn Lake.
