Save Radian Gallery's Artistic Mission
Donation protected
For the past six years, Radian Gallery has been showcasing the work of scores of emerging artists, most of them local, hailing from the Bay Area and California. We've also exhibited rising talent from around the world, giving them prestigious international exposure in San Francisco. Through numerous solo and group exhibitions, our mission has always been to provide a boost to the arc of these artists' professional and creative careers.
Now this mission is in jeopardy: First, there was the pandemic, which forced a long closure of the gallery, and then, just as we were starting to recover, our longtime landlord and ardent supporter passed away this year. As a result, the warm, wonderful building in San Francisco's SoMa District that Radian has called home for so many years is being sold. We will have to move.
Given the price tag on the place, a new owner would either have to raise the rent way beyond what we can afford or could even kick us out with only 30 days' notice so they could take over our space or raze the building for a new development.
The uncertainty is making it impossible for Radian to continue planning exhibitions and guaranteeing artists they'll have a place to show their work.
But we're looking at this as an opportunity. Rather than sit there and await an unknown fate, we see an opportunity to move to a new space, in a more central location, where we can not only continue our mission of bringing local emerging artists to the world and up-and-coming international artists to San Francisco – but do it better than ever before.
The market for prime retail and office space in San Francisco is at a low right now. This provides Radian with a window of opportunity – but that window is likely to slam shut very soon, and we just don't have the resources to do this on our own.
Help us seize the moment. Your generous donation will help us move to a new gallery space, build out that space as a premier showcase of new ideas, and promote the work of hundreds more deserving artists.
Thank you for your support.
