Save Rathcoole Woodlands
Donation protected
Dear resident, local business or friend,
We need your help! We, the residents of Rathcoole and Saggart, are fighting to save the 10 hectares of rewilded native woodland between our two towns. Rathcoole Woodlands.
An Bord Pleanala recently gave permission for phase 1 of a 2 phase development that will see the destruction of our much loved woodlands.
This woodland provides a much loved amenity for local families. Our towns are the fastest growing towns in Ireland and instead of providing us with more amenities SDCC intends to destroy what we have.

The application attracted 162 objections on numerous grounds including that an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) wasn’t even carried out and our small village roads and sewage systems are already dangerously over capacity.
Irish Water has even stated they can no longer guarantee sufficient water flow to put out a house fire in the new estates!
Councils have a responsibility to build safe, sustainable communities. We cannot allow planning authorities to keep shirking their every responsibility.
We believe there are good grounds to fight this planning decision. But we need a legal advice, and the legal process is costly. We need funds to campaign and to challenge planning decisions that threaten Rathcoole Woodlands.
This is a time of biodiversity and climate crisis and unforgivably poor town planning. Please help us continue fighting for our woodland, for our community, for all our children and for our future.
We appreciate any and all donations, no matter how small. We will use every cent in our fight to save the woodlands. Any money leftover will be donated to 2 charities close to our hearts - Kildare Animal Foundation and the Laura Lynn children’s hospice.
For more information on our woodland, it’s wetlands, meadows, stream and rare alluvial habitat, and our ongoing fight to save it please visit.
