Hi, my name is Gale Boisvert. I live in a small village named Scantic in East Windsor, Connecticut. We have lived here for almost 50 years. Unfortunately, our beautiful rural neighborhood is now facing a small group looking to ruin the historical landscape by putting a commercial party/event facility in the field right in the center of Scantic. We have formed a group, Friends of Scantic, a collection of neighbors who want to preserve the rural/country residential beauty of our village(incorporated in 1752).
Current Concern: Commercial Development proposal for property owned by the Historical Society on Cemetery Road.
Why we are opposed -
• Quality of life and property values for neighbors; some live as close as 80ft away from this building.
• Noise and lighting intrusion for abutting neighbors and even those beyond.
• Traffic on narrow roads with no shoulders. We have many joggers, bikers, and walkers on our roads.
• Potential for large groups (250+) of strangers to be in our neighborhood every week consuming alcohol and driving on the roads. We have many joggers and bicyclists that use these roads.
• This is a residential area. This type of business belongs in the areas of town zoned as commercial.
• This would set the precedent that someone with money could buy a field in an area zoned agricultural or residential and then go through the process to get approval to use it for commercial purposes.
This fundraiser helps pay for the lawyer we had to engage in trying to preserve our beautiful neighborhood and the communication materials needed to ensure all the town residents are enlightened and weigh in on the zoning process. In addition, any unused funds will be donated to the Five Corner Cupboard, the town food pantry.
