Save Shatika from EVICTION
Donation protected
I have no choice but to put my pride aside. As I write this, I’m on my way home from the ER for the second time in 4 days.
Hello, my name is Shatika. I am raising funds to avoid eviction. For the better part of last year, I was in and out of the hospital with a myriad of illnesses. My principal diagnosis is Cerebral Palsy. This led to additional surgeries, hospitalizations, and recovery efforts. Due to the long hospital stays, I was unable to work consistently. I am a business owner and an independent contractor for the state, in a capacity where I assist other people with disabilities gave the support and services that they need whether it be in the community or at home.
With this pending evictions looming over my head, my mental health and emotional well-being has suffered greatly. I have lived in this particular complex for 10 years almost. I am truly scared that if I lose my apartment, I will be put into a Group home or nursing home, which terrifies me. I have been out of a group home and deinstitutionalized since 2014. My freedom to live in the community means everything to me. I also want to continue to work so that others can experience living in the community as well.
I currently have a court date of August 16th, but if I can pay the balance before then, the eviction will be lifted.
The extra funds will also go towards making the rent balance negative so that I am ahead and other household expenses.
Anything and everything donated or shared is appreciated. I wouldn’t be asking if I wasn’t desperate. MY FREEDOM IS MY LIFE. Yes, in reality, a group home or nursing home would be the last resort, but to me, the possibility of it happening suffocates me.
As way of transparency, as things settle down (hopefully), I will be posting proof of payments etc.
Thank you.
