Don't let SOF close. Help Maribel & Mama Virginia
Donation protected
SoF is a great Spanish restaurant with delicious food and owners have poured into the community but they are facing EVICTION. Please, we can't let this happen especially at a time when "Mami" is facing the most difficult season in her life fighting against a brain tumor. Let's help this Puerto Rican mother/daughter team keep their dream open. They have done so much in the Bronx community. We can't let them close. WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME. PLEASE DONATE TODAY!!!
Present situation:
Unfortunately, Virginia, called “Mami” by many patrons, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. As a result, the restaurant has hit some tough times, and they are 6 months behind on their rent and are facing eviction. When Maribel was faced with the choice of opening the restaurant or taking care of her mother, she made the right choice and decided to take care of her. Unfortunately, that meant many instances of the restaurant not opening, which has caused a loss of income, and they are now facing eviction. But Virginia (Mami) refuses to give up and Maribel feels the same way. Even given Virginia’s health issues, she continues to push herself. She still goes into the SoF kitchen to oversee the authenticity of the food being cooked because in that environment she feels full of life and joy.
We treasure businesses like the SoF that give back to the community and it's now our turn to help them. We need your assistance to do everything possible to help keep the doors open at SoF. Please, dig deep in your heart and help SoF by donating to this fund and sharing it on your social media accounts. This restaurant was a dream come true for Virginia and Maribel when Maribel purchased it for her mother. Let's do what we can for them. Virginia and Maribel not only want to continue the legacy they have built as the Puerto Rican mother /daughter team, but they want to continue using SoF to highlight the culture, food and talent in the Bronx and continue the legacy of love, laughter, and unity.
Time is of the essence as the only way they will remain open is through our efforts. Let us collectively stand in unison, help them, and show them the love they have poured out for so many years. Let us work together for a miracle in the Bronx at SoF.
History of restaurant:
The restaurant's name honors a beautiful love story by the previous owner who designed the restaurant to look like the restaurant where he met his wife at the South of France. SoF was built from love and Maribel and her mother Virginia have built on that foundation of love. SoF has always given back to the community, donating food for fundraisers and always willing to lend a hand. If you visited, you already know the genuine love you feel from the owner Maribel and her 81-year-old mom who still enjoys overseeing the authenticity of their 4 generations of recipes. The food and service are outstanding, which is apparent given their excellent Google rating and their longevity – 30 years at the same location. The SoF’s mission has always been to serve quality, traditional Puerto Rican food with a “visit to grandma’s house” feel while also giving back to the community. They have stood on their motto of “we do it all for you" and have helped many non-profit organizations, the American Cancer Society, women empowerment groups, homeless shelters, children’s organizations, fundraisers for natural disasters in Puerto Rico, Haiti, Mexico, Santo Domingo etc and delivering free meals, during the height of COVID, for emergency room staff. They also have a long-standing history of showcasing talented people from many creative endeavors such as having comedy shows, sponsoring open mic, spoken word events, live music, and the very popular karaoke nights. They continued giving back to the community by providing free weekly meals for over 16 years! Given their generosity and love for the community, we now need to help them in their time of need.
Thank you to Paulie Mars, News12, Righteouseats and everyone who has stepped in to spread the word and help SoF. Share, share, share and go eat some delicious Puerto Rican food at Sof.
