UPDATE:
Why spay or neuter?
"NO LONGER AVAILABLE" = euthanized
“EUTHANIZED” = killed

This innocent soul is a victim of our disposable society. Her face and many others haunt me. This puppy was killed for space at a local Georgia shelter. Animals should not be dying due to space issues.

This is why we preach to SPAY & NEUTER your pets. There are resources available to help with that. Please visit us at www.missshirleysplace.org for more information. We can help you!

We must make this a priority in our community if we have any hope of solving this homeless pet problem. Together we can work toward a solution. We are better than this, Georgia.

*****************
Welcome to Miss Shirley's Place! We are a newly formed non-profit 501(c)(3). Our
mission is to offer a proactive solution in reducing pet overpopulation where there are more animals than homes.

Animal shelters/rescues are essential. They care for homeless, abused, sick or abandoned animals and try to give them a temporary, warm, loving home. Without them, there would be countless animals on the street. However, breeding is out-of-control and at a faster pace than shelters/rescues can save them.

Georgia is overwhelmed with uncontrolled breeding, too many strays and owner surrenders. Animal shelters/rescues and humane societies are turning away animals in need due to overcrowding and insufficient fosters, further contributing to pet overpopulation. Many of these animals end up being euthanized. According to the animal shelter statistics, Georgia ranks 5th with 43,000 killed shelter animals in 2022.

The companion pet overpopulation crisis is overwhelming; however, the deaths and suffering of homeless animals are hugely preventable. Miss Shirley's is offering the most effective means of combating pet overpopulation and suffering: to provide no or low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to low-income and financially struggling pet owners. Spay/neuter costs are high. Even the lower-cost alternatives can be at least $75-100 per animal plus the additional transportation cost to/from. Our goal is to provide funding for spay/neuter of as many animals as possible to reduce uncontrolled breeding, homeless animals, and euthanasia rates.

Spay/neuter is the most impactful solution in reducing overbreeding and preventing thousands of unwanted dogs and cats from crowded animal shelters/rescues. Locally, Miss Shirley's Place is the only spay/neuter humane society among the multiple humane societies.
