Stop Smack’N, a Southern Comfort Cuisine Restaurant that was created by D.C. natives DeAndre Green, Stanley Childs, and Chef Larry “Murf” Cooper was abruptly shut down on February 14, 2024. Due to a high rise in crime in Washington, DC, we have been struggling to keep our doors open as our sales revenue has dropped over 50%! We have faced some particularly tall and costly hurdles that have set us back significantly since the beginning. As we are tapping every resource we can imagine with creativity and open minds we need urgent assistance.
The funds raised will go toward catching up on overhead costs and debts incurred during a slow season at the close of last year. While Stop Smack’N has seen a significant increase in customer traffic and revenue that is promising moving forward the funds raised will be applied immediately to saving Stop Smack’N from closure.
In July 2021, we opened our doors and have become a staple within the Shaw-Howard community. We’ve given job opportunities to local college students, DC residents & minorities. Since opening, it has been extremely challenging as we have dealt with COVID-19 restrictions and a rise in crime, which has left many of our customers afraid to dine out. Throughout our tenure, we have built many relationships with our neighbors, Howard University, University of Maryland, local non-profit organizations, youth, Monumental Sports: Washington Wizards, other restaurateurs, and businesses. Annually, we host charity events, back to school drives, turkey giveaways, toy drives, clothing drives, and support other community givebacks. In such a small amount of time, Stop Smack’N has become a popular brick and mortar in Washington, DC.
Stop Smack’N originally started in 2020 during COVID in Chef Murf’s mother house in Northeast DC. The brand quickly grew on social media, so we decided to create a restaurant “Where Food Meets Fashion!” We have had much success with our food, news coverage, and loyal patrons. However, like many other restaurants in the city we are struggling to keep our doors open. We want to continue to serve delicious food in the warm, safe, and comfortable environment we created. Yet, we need your help to make this possible! With your donation, we can continue building our legacy as a black-owned business by providing food that feeds your soul and spreads love in the community!
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. We are hopeful we will see you soon. In the meantime, Stop Smack’N!
Sincerely,
DeAndre Green, Stanley Childs, and Chef Larry “Murf” Cooper
