The Groninger StudentenKrant is a news platform made by and for students, which was founded all the way back in the 1980s. We are now a relatively small group of dedicated independent writers trying our best to tell a variety of stories and share them with our fellow students across Groningen.
Despite this having been a really hard year for SK, where we missed out on a lot of funding, we still managed to grow our team and create a stable community that can continue on for years to come. When the academic year started, SK consisted of four people, which has now grown to around 20.
These days, a cornerstone of our association is the Board Picture Awards, where we rate and rank pictures sent in by the boards of Groningen’s many student associations. This year, a whopping 99 boards submitted their photos. This was a new record for the competition and another clear sign that Studentenkrant was getting back on track after a couple years of major trials and tribulations.
However, this is now all being undone because of a mistake that was made many years ago, by people who are no longer part of our association. Their usage of copyrighted pictures in articles caused us to receive a substantial fine from the ANP. We currently rely exclusively on university subsidies to stay afloat and are unable to pay the full fine with this money.
We need your help to pay the fine, so our volunteers can keep writing, and we can keep publishing articles for the students of Groningen!
