The global pandemic has taken its toll on the great music venues of NYC, including the world’s beloved Big Band Swing headquarters, Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club. Located in Times Square on historic Restaurant Row (West 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues) and continuing the 50 year legacy started in the space by Silver Lining and Red Blazer Too, Swing 46 has entertained audiences with the best in big band swing orchestras, music, dancing and fine dining. Keeping the spirit of the 1940s vintage supper club alive in modern times, Swing 46 provided live music every night for 23 years (1997-2020). Legendary swing dancers such as Frankie Manning, Norma Miller and Dawn Hampton have graced the dance floor every week, and revered tap dancers including Buster Brown, Gregory and Maurice Hines and Savion Glover have hosted the longest running weekly “Tap Jam” at this classic venue. In addition to providing a home to the New York City Swing Dance Community and world renowned artists, Swing 46 became a beloved tourist destination, welcoming jazz fans and dancers from around the world.
Swing 46 is facing extreme hardships to function. The challenges and circumstances of the global pandemic threaten the viability of the club and keeping its staff employed. The rent and other bills need to be paid immediately and our hopes of keeping the venue open are dwindling.
If funding does not become available to help this beloved club pay ongoing bills like rent, utilities, payroll to staff, and other necessities, it will not be able to continue to operate. Swing 46 will be forced to close its doors permanently and NYC will lose another precious live music venue, and the world will lose the only permanent space dedicated to big band swing dancing.
We are determined to keep our beloved Swing 46 open and functioning, to continue to provide live music, dining and dancing to the New York City and international community. Please join the fans of Swing 46 in supporting this fantastic, joy-filled live music venue, in the heart of New York City’s Times Square on Restaurant Row. The owner, staff and musicians of Swing 46 Jazz and Supper Club truly appreciate your generous support.
