UPDATE:
We thank everyone for their ongoing support as they continue to make donations. At the May 16th board meeting the Almo School issue was tabled in order for board members to look over information to make the best decision at the next meeting on June 20th. Meanwhile grants have been identified for application. Some of these grants have closed for the year and as soon as they open applications will be sent off.

The Almo School has been serving the community for 103 years. On May 7th of this year, the community held an open meeting and invited the district superintendent and a local board member to explain the rumor that the school could be closed for the coming year--and maybe forever. Community members spoke passionately about how this school is the heart of this small town in remote southern Idaho. Generations of children have grown up in this valley and attended Almo School.
Parents appreciate the wholesome environment, the excellent student-teacher ratio, and their ability to participate in the school because it's close to home. If the school closes, children in grades K-3 would be forced to board a bus as early as 6:15 a.m. and return home as late as 5:30 p.m.--a total of three to four hours on the bus each day.
School officials explained the closing was a strong possibility because of a deficit of $21,000 in the Almo School budget. We were told if we could come up with "something good" to present to the board in their May 16th meeting, which is now only five days away, it would change the discussion to close the school.
Please help us raise $21,000 to keep our school open this next year and provide time to find other ways to support our children in our historic school. We need more than the ten days (May 7th - May 16th) to rally all of our community, write grant proposals, and contact appropriate officials.
Your contribution will give us a chance to save our school.
Thank you sincerely for your donation.***
*** Donations will be returned if the board does not accept our offer.
