Save the Benton Red Brick Church

The Benton PM Church was erected in 1864, a decade before the railroad came through Benton, two decades before the first bank, and 50 years before Hwy 11 was completed. The Benton PM Church is a critical piece of our history.
14 years ago, the church was abandoned and was scheduled to be torn down. Six brave ladies and the pastor stepped forward with the mission to save the building. After many months of waiting, on October 20, 2020, the Friends and Family of the Benton PM Church received the deed and became the owner of the church building. For 146 years the church has been a place of worship, marriage, funerals and many other social events in the community of Benton. This property is a sacred space, an important part of our cultural landscape and a huge part of Benton's collective history. The building has the damage associate with long-term neglect and some of the work that needs to be done to save the church building and the addition is urgent. The main building, the bell tower, and the addition all need roofs.

Our vision for this historic church and cemetery is that it will be a welcoming place that offers a quiet place to rest, reflect, meditate, and pray. It will be a sacred place that promotes reflection, renewal, resolution, and dedication. It will be a connection to the community that serves and promotes the history of the church and the Benton community.
