Like countless other San Francisco small businesses, the Broken Record is struggling to stay alive during the pandemic shutdown. We have held off asking our family, friends and customers for financial help, so it is with a heavy heart that we announce our first fundraiser. We have taken out additional business loans but without any formal relief or forgiveness on rent, insurance, utilities, taxes, business fees etc we find funds running low after a full year of Covid-19 related hardships. We are asking today for your help to keep the Broken Record from becoming another permanently closed SF institution.
The Broken Record opened in the spring of 2007 and quickly rose in popularity, bringing a spotlight to the Excelsior / Crocker Amazon neighborhoods through TV spots on “Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives”, “Check Please Bay Area” and countless newspaper and magazine articles. We have hosted many amazing chefs, won several “Best of the Bay” awards and were featured in numerous “Best Whiskey Bars in America” lists. The only thing we are more proud of than our accolades is our ever growing community of friends, customers and supporters.
Holding true to the spirit of old San Francisco, the Broken Record has always strived to be an inclusive oasis for the open-minded and young at heart. We have been with many through marriages, births and even deaths. Legendary anniversary parties, annual Star Wars theater buy outs, chili cook offs, pool and dart tournaments. The Broken Record has been used as a springboard for several amazing chefs and restaurateurs, adding to the landscape of our amazingly diverse city. We have been fortunate enough to employ an amazing staff of creative, determined and deeply wonderful people whom all will hopefully get the chance to return to work when restrictions lessen. It is our fear that with no end date in sight and the severe additional debt we’ve taken on, that might not happen.
How many neighborhood businesses will be reborn with the same identity when the pandemic is over? Community matters, neighborhood businesses matter. With your help, we can save the Broken Record so please give what you can and share this page with friends.
