"Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire."
Last year my family and I were fortunate to travel to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, home to one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. But the real wonder of this place is the beautiful spirit and generosity of its people. For those with so little they give so much, they greet you with warm smiles and embrace you with their heart and loving spirit.
Now, the people of Victoria Falls desperately need our help. Victoria Falls rely almost solely on tourism for their income to buy the basics of life- food and water. COVID has stopped all tourism to the Falls. With no income to buy food and water, children, women and the elderly are dying from thirst and hunger. Women and girls cannot afford to buy sanitary pads. Girls as young as 12 are now selling their bodies to buy the pads and are in turn being infected with HIV in horrific numbers. The situation is grave.
I can assure you these are genuine and hard working people. They do not get any support from the government. They are dying from hunger and thirst every day . This should not happen in today's society.
My friend , Evans Irvine Makoni runs the MASEC Trust in Victoria Falls, a foundation he set up to help vulnerable women, children and elderly suffering from poverty, hunger and illness. He and his team of volunteers, backed by the chiefs of the villages in Victoria Falls, have terrific initiatives to help their own communities. Whilst they do not lack passion, vision or work ethic to realize their objectives, they do lack the necessary funds to achieve them.
So I am moved to help my friends in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe raise funds to realize 3 critical objectives to help save lives of their people now:
1. In next 30 days feed their elderly, children, widows and other impoverished families who are living in extreme poverty, by providing them with emergency food packages so that they have basic food to eat and clean water to drink.
2. In next 30-60 days: Purchase fence poles and fencing to build gardens, drill solar powered boreholes and install water tanks in each garden for water.
3. In next 60 days implement their poultry project - to build chicken-pens and purchase chicks, feed and required chemicals to feed the chicks. Labor for this project will be free as it is a community project and will be resourced with people are already out of employment. The entire community of the villages of Victoria Falls are working on this program but need the money to make it a reality.
I was taught that "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire."
Please give what you can. Your donation will truly help save lives.
Thank you.
