Save the Corner House; Marfa!
Donation protected
We are raising funds to help Miguel secure an adobe home that has been in his Mexican/Mexican-American family for generations and that we hope will provide a safe haven for him and our community for years to come!
Property and land ownership have a fraught history within the United States. Many within the queer community and folks of color have a complicated and sometimes estranged relationship to the inheritance of such assets, if even access at all. In Marfa, Texas, a town largely still segregated between working class Mexican Americans and the upper echelon of art organizations, the ownership of land and property is especially charged. Existing within his family for the past four generations, the "corner house" is a gem and will be lost if we can't raise the funds to save it. Miguel has worked tirelessly to restore this historic adobe to livable conditions so that it may remain in the family instead of being torn down. Please donate if you can so that he can 1) pay the remainder of back taxes 2) pay legal fees and 3) fix up and restore the adobe home.
The house is in desperate need of electrical re-wiring, plumbing, and interior basics. Everything was ripped out many years ago. Any bit helps!
