Save the Gateway Theatre - Can You Help?
We are looking urgently to raise £60,000 to cover our extra costs and to ensure that the council’s insurers are satisfied that the theatre can reopen, and offer everything it did before the closure, including live gigs, as soon as possible.
The closure since December has been financially catastrophic for the Charity and the effect on its loyal customers is deeply regretted by theatre staff, volunteers, and Trustees.
The loss of income from events over Christmas and continuing, meant that we were in danger of closure, however an 11th hour generosity of supporters has enabled us to cover our running costs until we are back in business. The funds raised through this appeal will be used to bring the stage rigging, electrical fittings and fire curtains up to the current standard so that live music events can resume.
Additionally, the Gateway has already been billed £12000 for work during closure and another bill, understood to be in the region of £15,000, is imminent. Under the terms of the lease, costs to the maintenance of the building are shared 50/50 with the landlords STC. The council has also advised that other significant repairs to the building will soon need attention. This is all in accordance with the terms of our current Lease
The Gateway Theatre is a vital centre for cultural and community life and is the heart of our town. It offers a future of theatre, live music, screenings, and community group meetings for the people of Seaton, and its closure would leave a gap in our community that could never be filled.
Seaton needs the Gateway, and the Gateway need the people of Seaton.
