Greetings GMC'ers! For the past 3 1/2 years, GMCmotorhome.org (a.k.a. "the new forum") has been the modern go-to community for 1973-1978 GMC Motorhome information. Today, the forum has more than 1,300 registered members and gets over 24,000 page views per month!
Hi, I'm Christo Darsch, the owner and operator of GMCmotorhome.org. I want to share with you an exciting opportunity to vastly improve the amount of information available on the forum by importing the GMCnet mailing list, an archive containing more than twenty years' worth of discussions about the GMC Motorhome, into GMCmotorhome.org. Not only will this preserve valuable information from GMCnet for current and future GMC'ers, it will also make searching for information much more convenient by aggregating results across the new and the old.
I don't know about you, but whenever I'm getting ready to undertake a project on my coach (a 1977 Eleganza II), I try to vacuum up as much reference material as possible from the internet. Where can I find parts? What's the best way to do the job? Are improvements to the original design available? Who's the [fill-in-the-blank] guru? Having a combined archive of conversations available in a single place will really be a dream come true!
You might be aware that activity on GMCnet has declined over the past year or so due to several technical and non-technical factors. While GMCnet's future remains uncertain, we wish the GMCnet team and its participants all the best. This effort is only intended to make the historical archive conveniently available on any device to the widest possible audience.
So now we come to the ask. I have found a XenForo (GMCmotorhome.org's underlying software) expert who can convert the email archives into message threads in a read-only section of the forum. But that work will take some effort. GMCmotorhome.org is currently funded by advertisers like Applied GMC, Sirum GMC, and CruzinGear (my wall-mounted bottle opener business) so that I can provide forum access at no cost. For the first time, I'm asking individual members of the GMC Motorhome community to help out in support of this important work. Although we're far from the largest RV/travel trailer community (I'm looking at you, Airstream!), I believe we're the most supportive. Can I count you in?
