The High Dive...

A sanctuary for diehard music-heads of all genres, the High Dive holds a special place in many peoples hearts, as its open and friendly environment, culminated by incredible owner David, aka Shark Toof, creates an extremely inviting safe haven for locals and travelers alike.

David took over the space, formerly known as Carbon in Hamtramck, in late 2018 and turned it into what we now see as a staple venue for musicians ranging from House and Techno to Rock, Hip Hop, and everything else in between.

Myself, Jack Benson - am the Co-Founder of LiteWork Detroit, a record label and event series focused on house music in Detroit. Established officially in June  of 2019 with partner Eric Swi, the LiteWork Detroit team has been hosting events at the High Dive just a few short months after its introduction to the area, before LiteWork Detroit was even a thought in our minds.

David's incredible work ethic paired up with his genuine friendliness and amazing staff is what has brought us back to the High Dive time and time again to host events. For a team like ourselves, David has allowed LiteWork Detroit to do almost anything we hand planned. His creative mind, as often times seen with his incredible artistry in areas like Eastern Market, has allowed others to come and express themselves in a completely judgement-free zone. David has given us more than just a place to play music - The High Dive allowed us to be ourselves: to play the music we wanted, to dance as hard as we wanted. to be around the people we love, to cheers our drinks to those who couldn't make it or maybe those that aren't with us anymore. The High Dive was there for us whenever we wanted it to be.

When we first created LiteWork, the idea was very simple: LiteWork would go far beyond the superficiality that usually comes with hosting parties and playing music. LiteWork is about bringing together culture, venues, artists, great music and house and techno lovers into one space where we all get to express ourselves without judgement. A place where the music is louder than your problems if even only for just a few hours.

Since it's opening, David has spent countless hours, not only working, but improving his establishment. From new murals (that he created!) and accessories inside for all to enjoy, to new DJ'ing and sound equipment - the High Dive has it all. But that could all be for nothing...

With the introduction of COVID to Metro Detroit the High Dive has been hit hard, much like other small businesses all across Michigan. Unfortunately, David's resources are running thin. Without the regularity of shows and events during the week and weekends, our fears may become reality in just a short amount of time.

Now, it's our turn to be there for the High Dive. We are asking our friends, family and fans of LiteWork Detroit to please spare what you can and help us raise some money for David and the High Dive. The local music scene needs your help!

To some, it might just be another night out at the bars - but for others, these nights are therapy. These nights are our antidotes. These nights remind us of the times we spent with friends and family. For some, music is all we know.

Please help The High Dive! Our first $500 will be matched by GoFundMe as part of their Small Business Relief Initiative, so please help!!
