Save the Kisner Home from being Demolished

Donation protected
The Kisner family needs your help, or else their home will disappear. I am fundraising to assist the Kisner family to override a Demolition Ruling for a house passed down through generations. These funds will allow the Kisner family to keep their home from being destroyed, while also being able to care for themselves at the end of the day.

Shirley Kisner lives in Dunnellon FL, along with her daughter Ashley. In recent months they’ve been dealing with many financial and now housing issues, where their inherited home may become demolished.

The original homeowner in the 80’s, was Grandmother Emmarene. Grandmother Emmarene was a sweet and kindly old woman who reminded some of Pooh Bear. She collected things she liked and hoarded things she was given or gifted. This ranged from papers, knickknacks, postcards, to stuffed animals, and plants. Everything would have a place, or a use, ‘eventually’.

In 2010 Grandmother Emmarene was put in the ICU; During that time, she made the decision to have her Will finalized. The will included her Home and hoarded belongings that would be put in Ashley's name. Emmarene survived the ICU, but got sick and passed in 2020.

Due to Emmarene's declining health and Hoarding tendencies, she had left the house in a terrible state. She had gotten sick and had to go into rehab, and then home care. When she passed in 2020 after another trip to a hospital and rehab, Ashley decided to begin work on trying to get the house into a repairable state. While Shirley and Ashley were consumed with grief, they wanted to try to keep what they could and had a hard time separating the sentimental and essential. However, with all of Emmarene's collecting- there was so much to go through.

Not only would they be tasked with general house cleaning and picking up trash, but they would also face going through boxes upon boxes of old collections. Collections that could contain family photos, letters, and many other sentimental things. They could not just toss everything into a bin.

Shirley and Ashley were forced to try to sell what they could, and DIY fix parts of the home that they could. During this time, Ashley learned how to install and patch drywall, repair framework and insulation, and do minor electrical repairs. She did this just to keep up with what damage was done by the weather, plants, and animals of Flordia- along with what damage was accrued due to Emmarene's involuntary negligence.

All of these visits to clean, organize, and repair Emmarene's house were done while Ashley and Shirley ALSO fought to maintain their own small property. The goal was to, hopefully, move into Emmarene's home. Help for this grand task was rare- and doing the work on their own placed both Mother and Daughter at risk for injury and sickness, which occurred often enough that progress seemed impossible. Whenever one part would seem finished- something else would fall down, melt away, disconnect, fry, or have new weather damage.

However, none of this was enough to truly warrant a fundraiser for these stubborn and resilient women- not until they learned the State of Flordia was planning to demolish Emmarene's house. To Shirley and Ashley, this was out of nowhere. An extreme and stressful shock.

According to the state, they had sent letters to Emmarene's property- letters that neither Mother nor Daughter received despite their trips to the property at least once a week, but oftentimes more than once. It is possible that the mail was intercepted, but nothing is proven at this point.

Due to this Notice of Demolition, the State plans to tear the house down. And if it is not properly Vacated, Ashley- who inherited the house- will have to pay for the demolition. This includes the possibility of jail time for obstruction and negligence. Not only does this risk loom over the Mother and Daughter, but every trip to the property now comes with the chance of "hidden fees" and the state possibly opting to '“charge a misdemeanor for going onto the slum property”.

The State insists and has produced records of, having sent a Notice referring to Emmarene's house being a Slum or Blighted Building. The next strange part is that the inspection causing this report was performed within a month of Emmarene's passing in 2020. Furthermore, the 'damning evidence' of 'the hole' that was reported in the roof of the building was never there. The damage seen in the photo below is a grouping of pine needles in the shade.

Regardless, the Home is now under threat of being lost- with a majority of its contents still on the property, which could easily trigger the Fine and Jail time. Ashley and Shirley have fought for a straight month, and even with an extension lasting 'till the 15th of June, there is still MUCH to be done. Without this support, they will have to use the last of any savings; money set aside to secure burial for Shirley when she passes away.

The point of this fundraiser is to make sure they can have the equipment they need to repair and clean, dumpsters to hold and transport the literal tons of trash, hire an inspector/engineer/architect to override the Slum or Blight ruling, and still be able to care for themselves at the end of the day. Please help save Ashley and Shirley from the faulty demolition notice. Thank you.
