"A Scoop of Ice Cream, a Heap of Empowerment!"
The Lansdowne Cone is a small, locally owned Social Enterprise that empowers individuals with social and developmental barriers to employment by providing training and job opportunities in a supportive, community-based environment, ensuring everyone has access to employment opportunities. Inclusion, support, and active engagement are our key values.
We have loved every second of our last 6 seasons! We have successfully trained and supported over 30 individuals with disabilities. We have ongoing partnerships with the Yonge Street Mission, and Montage Support Services. In a previous arrangement with the Geneva Centre for Autism, we helped to enrich their pre-employment program with live job site training for over 60 people in a 2 year period.
We are proud to be amongst the vibrant Bloordale small businesses community providing a fun, inclusive space, and of course some truly fabulous local ice cream.
As we were excitedly preparing for our Summer 2020 season - forging new partnerships and preparing for a new group of employees, and navigating the chaos of COVID-19 - we received some terrible news: the building we have called home since 2014 has been sold, and the new owners want the building vacated entirely: leaving The Cone without a home.
But fear not, we will not give up the fight for great ice cream and supportive employment empowerment in Bloordale. We are currently endeavouring to find a new home in the neighbourhood we love (likely for Summer 2021).
In the meantime, help us continue to be a mission-driven resource in the community:
1. Support our GoFundMe campaign with whatever you can to help us find a new home and continue our work
2. Follow us on Social Media (Instagram ; Twitter ; Facebook ) and share our posts to create awareness about the work we are doing
3. Get in touch directly to talk about partnerships, available spaces, pop ups, or other innovative and creative options
Offering employment, training, an inclusive setting for folks with barriers, as well as a gathering place for our friends and neighbours, is a labour of love, and we are driven to continue to do this work for as long as we can.
A Scoop of Ice Cream, a Heap of Empowerment!
** NOTE: Though we are not currently registered as a NFP, 100% of the proceeds from the business are used to support the employment training program. Aside from finding a new home to continue our work, Incorporating as a Not for profit is the second most important project for The Lansdowne Cone in 2020
