Save The Lenton Business Centre – Home to 80 Local Community Organisations, Charities & Businesses.

Our 'Save The Marcus Garvey Centre & Lenton Business Centre Action Group' asks for you to kindly donate, to raise money to pay for our expensive legal costs and legal advice which is essential for us to fight Nottingham City Council, to keep our business centre open. We also need to have vital repairs and maintenance done to the building, in particular bringing several fire exits up to standard. Nottingham City Council are claiming that a 'fire risk' is the main reason to close and sell our local business centre building and the attached Marcus Garvey Centre. Nottingham City Council have set the cost of repair at £300,000, stating that keeping it open is unviable for them. We aim to organise any repair work to be done ourselves for a fraction of the estimated costs from Nottingham City Council. The Lenton Business Centre must not be forced to close, as 80 local community organisations, charities and businesses will be forced to relocate, following being served with 28 days notice to leave by Nottingham City Council. Our local diverse business communities cannot loose the only facility of its kind, that has provided essential support and services to a wide range of growing businesses and community organisations. If Nottingham City Council succeed in forcing the closure of the business centre so it can be sold, It will inevitably affect the future of those businesses and organisations located there. In turn this will affect their employees and volunteers, their customers and those they serve, their reputations and the local economy and may force some to sell up or into bankruptcy. The disruption already caused to the general running and costs to these businesses and their staff is already evident. NCC's demands to move so many established businesses in 28 day period with no prior warning is unreasonable, unrealistic and impossible to meet. The future of the Lenton Business Centre and its businesses and community service providers and jobs are now under serious threat. We really appreciate your support!
