Save the Kangaroo Island Ligurian Bee
Donation protected
About a quarter of Kangaroo Island's Ligurian Bees have been lost in bushfires that ravaged the island on the 3rd of January 2020.
Island Beehive has personally lost 400 of their hives and 90% of the bee sites we use have been ravaged by fire. These sites may not provide forage for years to come.
The bees that have survived are facing a dire future and may not be able to produce honey.
If we can't get them onto a resource where there's flowers, nectar and pollen, the queens will stop breeding and they'll just decline in numbers.
We need to purchase bee feeders and feed to save them.
We then need to launch a queen breeding program to breed again so we do not loose the purity of the Ligurian Bee which is only found on Kangaroo Island.
We need money to do this.
Please share our story and donate whatever you can.
