Save the man who saves the monkeys!

Steve needs your help funding potentially life saving surgery!

Steve Smit founded the first ever animal rights charity in South Africa as well as founding and still running the Monkey Helpline, a non profit charity which rescues, rehabilitate and releases injured vervet monkeys. Steve has rescued tens of thousands of monkeys over the past 40 years, averaging around 1800 monkeys a year or 5 monkeys every day. He has worked 24/7 365 for 40 years putting animals of all kind's care and well-being above his own.

Steve is in need of urgent medical care after discovering a tumour larger than a tennis ball in his armpit. The doctors believe it is likley lymphoma but due to the location, a noninvasive biopsy isn't an option and he requires surgery to remove the tumour in whole.

Even in best case scenario where this tumour is not cancerous, this surgery alone to remove this tumour is likley to cost anywhere up to R100,000 (£4500). As the founder of a non profit, Steve has poured every penny of his money and belongings into the Monkey Helpline and simply cannot afford this surgery without our help.

I have spent 3 months of this year living and volenteering along side Steve and his partner Carol who have welcomed me with open arms into their unique monkey family. They are some of the most compassionate and giving people on the planet who have looked after thousands of animals and people alike and now it's time for them to be the receivers of the same kindness they show others.
