Ron Mendica, resident of Papin Avenue is loved so much his neighbors named him the Mayor of Papin Avenue. To those who know him well, he's a hero and patron of victory. This man has beaten cancer, the unbeatable disease not once, not twice, but three times. Ron is selfless, brave, and has cracked a joke and had dinner with death several times. Ron is an amazing person, a partyer, a lover of dogs, an educator, and has taught numerous people the art of driving.
But recently he's been sickly. The usually happy and energetic warrior is out of breath by walking through his own house. He's a walking skeleton, won't eat, sleeps a lot more. Ron is a yellow color, pale, and just doesn't seem well. Nor is he feeling well.
Ron one day went to the hospitial due to only having a third of the blood he should. After a long period of going from doctor to doctor, test after test, waiting and waiting, we finally found out what's happening.
Ninety-five percent of Ron's bone marrow is cancerous. Only five percent of it is able to produce blood. On Friday, (12/29/17) he's recieving a spinal tap to see if any cancer has spread to fluids or his nervous system. The recomended treatment is a very expensive drug that will cost about ten thousand dollars a month, one thousand if insurance can cover it. (I think we all know that this is unreliable.) During this time, he may be out of work, and either way, with him working or otherwise, my grandparents cannot afford this treatment.
Ron is remaining vigilant, and he's been saying "let the healing begin", accepting this as a challenge and another battle he's going to emerge victorious from. The money will benefit my Grandparents paying for the tests, the treatment, allow Ron to rest and concentrate on feeling better, and not have to work. The funds are needed as soon as possible. Any amount of money is appreicated, supporting messages, and spreading of Ron Mendica's situation will all help them.
