Save the Minden ER
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Patrick Porzuczek. I am a proud resident and former Firefighter of Minden, Ontario. Many others and I in the community will be impacted by HHHS’ quick decision to close the Minden Emergency Department in only SIX weeks. This closure will be a devastating loss to Minden Hills and all surrounding communities.
Haliburton Highlands Health Services’ CEO and Executive Board members have neglected to engage with the community and locally elected officials, going as far as blocking a member of County Council from joining the Board. There have been no public meetings or an explanation as to how this closure will impact all of those who use the ER, including local fire departments and paramedic services.
Our local member of Provincial Parliament has failed Minden Hills by showing support for a CT scanner in Haliburton, without acknowledging HHHS already struggles to get an X-Ray technician. It will likely be virtually impossible to find someone to run this new piece of machinery. Ms. Laurie Scott is not taking into consideration the effect the Minden ER closure will have on her constituents.
I am creating this page to gather donations so that we can help pay for signage and anything else we could use to have our voices be heard and to stop this closure!
There are so many stories being brought to the Facebook site, “Save Minden Ontario Emergency Room”. If you haven’t already joined, please do and share with friends! There’s strength in numbers!!
I am hopeful that supporting this cause will help us fight this change that will impact us for generations to come. From cottaging accidents, highway accidents, EMS response times, heart attack victims and so on. I myself have had a positive impact by this hospital from cardiac care I received, and now my 6-year-old daughter who had heart arrhythmia discovered by a Minden ER doctor.
Most of us know how important this Minden emergency department is to the community and how it impacted us alone or as a community and know of someone who had their life saved by this department. We cannot let this go unheard.
I want to have lawn signs available to everyone. I want to have resources available to help this cause. If we succeed, the monies left over will be distributed back to the Minden ER. If we are unsuccessful, the money will be donated to the local fire department with discretion on life-saving equipment and upgrades they can use with public input.
We need to be heard, so please join me in this vital endeavour to save our Minden Hospital!
