Save The Polygon Centre for community use!

Derbyshire County Council is selling The Polygon Centre.

If you have lived in Alfreton long enough, you will be well aware of the positive impact this building has had on many people.

It would be a travesty for the Polygon to be bought by developers to flatten, and put houses on.

Alfreton gets a bad rap from outsiders that it is a 'dying' town. This is nonsense; it isn't the stuff in a town that makes it great, it is the people who are there. You don't have to look very hard to find people who really care about this town.

I am one of them, and I am willing to take on the role of running The Polygon Centre, turning it into a community hub, and restoring to a key part of what makes Alfreton special. I have set up a Community Interest Company (CIC) called The Polygon Centre. You can find it on HMRC's companies house.

The centre is listed at a guide price of £75,000+ fees (£1,500 buyers fee). There will also be solicitors fees, surveyors fees, and various other expenses involved to get it up and running. £80,000 will be a minimum to get the centre back into the community's hands. I have received a sponsor for £75,000, so we need to raise a further £5,000 to be in with a chance of buying it back!

If the goal of £5,000 is not met by the auction date (23rd October 2024), then no money will be taken, and the fate of the Polygon Centre will be in someone else's hands. If the money is raised, but the auction is won by some other party, no money will be taken, and the fate of the Polygon Centre will be in the hands of the winning bidder.

If you have had a similar idea to me, then please get in touch. It would be very unfortunate for two people with the same aims to be competing with each other!
