Save the Stephenson Home

Donation protected
Jonathan Stephenson possessed the desire to serve his country. Shortly after enlisting in the Navy in 2014 at the age of 19, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor while stationed in Japan. The severity of the tumor required that it be removed while he remained in Japan:, his mother was by his side as soon as possible. Following surgery, Jon received intensive therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center. His mom remained by his side while Jon’s younger brothers were back home in New York.

Life post-recovery led to a medical discharge from the Navy as he was one hundred percent disabled. The Stephenson family began to rebuild under this new normal.
It became apparent that the family needed a home best suited for Jon’s needs while continuing to be surrounded by his circle of support which includes his mom and two younger brothers. The family relied on Jon’s disability as his mom could not work given the scope of Jon’s caregiving needs.

Amidst the upheavals of this new normal, the Stephenson family was blessed to acquire a home through a land contract that is a haven for them. The home is large enough for Jon’s circle of support and allows him to love and cherish his “babies” (aka cats), providing stability and comfort to him as he faces medical challenges. Within the past two years, his condition has deteriorated. Jon suffered two strokes in 2021 and is battling White Matter disease, which continues to kill brain cells. He also faces the prospect of additional strokes.

The Stephenson family has been challenged to keep up with mortgage payments, taxes, and car repairs given the ever increasing health concerns which impact his entire family. The family has been informed that unless they find the means to purchase their home by the end of June, the holders of the land contract will be placing the home up for sale .Given their circumstances, the Stephensons are unable to access financing via conventional means. They face the daunting task of finding a home to meet Jon’s present and future needs while keeping his family close at his side to provide needed love and practical support.

Help us provide stability for the Stephenson family. Any money donated will be used to fund the remaining balance left on the land lease. Please help so that their
home may remain their haven.
