IF YOU DONATE ANYTHING, even $5.00, It helps me!
If you can't, your support and good wishes mean immeasurable strength and comfort to me.
Who Am I?I am a 70 year old woman artist living and working in a rent stabilized apartment in New York for 42 years.
I am the target of a greedy landlord’s predatory tactics.
I found an attorney who I know can win and allow me to stay in my home of 42 years and work and support myself there, as I have since I moved in March 1, 1976.
All of you have helped me raise $15,000., 1/2 of an initial retainer payment of $30,000 which allowed my attorney to agree to start defending my home and to successfully adjourn my court date yesterday, February 2 to May 3, 2017.
She is working on my appeal of the Judge's decision against me based on an alleged techical error.
Why did I create a GoFundMe campaign?
Please help me raise the remaining $15,000 by next Friday, February 10 for completion of Phase One of payment.
That's $50 each from 100 people!
I need another $15,000. to complete the retainer payments of $30,000. by June 28, 2017, the final date for the "Perfected Appeal" to be filed.
I have received $15,251. so far from caring, generous friends and family.
How your donation will help!If you can get the word out for even the smallest donation or connection to wish me success, it means the world to me. I have been fighting and paying for this alone for 3 1/2 years and cannot do it in isolation any more, either financially or emotionally.
In the time since I was able to retain this attorney due to the generosity of friends and family, a burden slipped off my shoulders, and I was able to do my first painting in months, and to start being able to support my self, after the Judge ordered me NOT TO WORK, and took away any means I had to do so.
What else I need:
I would like to be connected with leadership at AARP, who has mounted a campaign against these illegal eviction attempts and has a bill in front of the NYC Council to guarantee that all tenants have attorneys.
I would like to be connected with other rent stabilized tenants who have been targeted by their landlords as an excuse to return their units to Market rates, and are also now in danger of loosing their homes.

It’s a frightening story that is becoming the norm and I would like to work to protect renters from this.
AARP had a segment on MetroFocus last week, that eviction of elderly tenants, especially rent controlled or stabilized is becoming a plague and epidemic in New York City.
AARP has started a bill which will assure each tenant of an attorney.
Currently, 90% of Landlords have attorneys, and only 10% of tenants do, thereby almost guaranteeing that the Landlord will win 90% of the time.
What happens to me? I will be homeless.
The landlord took me to court for eviction, and as I cannot afford a proper landlord tenant attorney, my case was not heard, and the Judge ruled against me for a technicality.
I am at risk of losing my workplace and home. All I want is to be in my home of 42 years, to work from it, and to be able to support myself.
Please help.
This is a case that will set legal precedent in New York housing law. It is time to act.
