Help Juliet Stay in Canada

If you were facing forced sterilization, what would you do?
Juliet and Emmi are a couple from Finland who are seeking refuge in Canada with their one-year-old daughter, Helmi. They have fled their country for fear of persecution by their own government.
Juliet is a transgender woman who, under Finnish law, would need to be sterilized in order to live as her true self. This is a human rights violation, and one that would ensure she and Emmi could not grow their family – which is something they both desperately wish to do.
Furthermore, Juliet’s parental rights would be removed to her biological child, and she would need to go through an adoption process to be recognized as Helmi’s “caregiver” (not her second mother.)
Juliet and Emmi are currently staying in Ottawa, Canada, with the Knox family. Amanda Jette Knox is a writer and human rights advocate. Her wife, Zoe, and daughter, Alexis, are both transgender women, making their home a safe space for someone who is newly transitioning. You can read more about how these families came together on Amanda’s blog .
While Juliet and Emmi’s living expenses are currently being covered by the Knox’s, they are incurring legal fees in their quest to remain in Canada. Therefore, the Knox family is attempting to raise money for their international guests in order to cover the following:
- Lawyer fees
- Expenses related to their claim (assessments, travel, expert reports, etc.)
- Early transition expenses (medical expenses incurred for non-Canadian residents and laser treatment for facial hair removal)
Even a small donation can go a long way in helping this family establish themselves in Canada, a country that respects the rights of all human beings. Please help Juliet and her family stay safe and begin a life in this wonderful new country.
Together, we can change lives. Thank you from the Knox family and our brave Finnish guests!
