HELP US SAVE METROPOLIS!! #savenickmetropolis #savethecorner
Nick Metropolis needs OUR HELP! This beloved Landmark of Hollywood collectibles will be EVICTED unless Nick can pay the property management company a good portion of the back rent he owes by May 22nd.
He can’t do that without our help.
We, Nick's customers, neighbors, and fans are coming together to SAVE THE CORNER.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP us preserve this magical place!
Nick has been there for us. Let’s be there for him. Too many of our landmarks are getting pushed out of Los Angeles. Let’s rally around Nick Metropolis and SAVE OUR CORNER.
Nick Metropolis is a Hollywood icon. For 26 years, he has been renting & selling tv/movie props & collectible furniture to Los Angeles locals, international collectors, film students, high profile celebrities, and movie buffs alike.
"Driving south down La Brea, it’s impossible to miss the crazy carnival of ephemera at the corner of South 1st street." - LA WEEKLY, JAMES BARTLETT
“Collectors' hunting ground, prop master's dream”- LOS ANGELES TIMES, NITA LELYVELD
A staple in the Los Angeles community-- Nick Metropolis is known for his fantastic collectibles, but more importantly, for his giving heart and infectious personality. He often employs the homeless around the neighborhood to help out.
Nick builds community. He promotes humor, laughter, and kindness. He embraces the quirky. We can’t lose this special place in our neighborhood.
To Nick, not just everyTHING is valuable, but everyONE is valuable. Everyone who comes into his store is important. Celebrities, up and coming directors, homeless veterans, local children…Nick makes sure to get to know all our stories.
What happened/how did Nick end up facing eviction?
LaBrea has become a hot street over the years. Rents have gone up considerably. Nick's rent is $4K/week, $16K a month. During the worst rains in LA history this past year, no one was shopping and the few sales Nick made didn't cover the rent. The rains also damaged some valuable merchandise that he had to throw away, but for which he still had to pay consigners. Then, the store was robbed and approximately $35K in merchandise was stolen. He got behind about 7 months in rent.
Where will the money go?
The money we raise will go toward paying off 7 months of back rent. The total amount Nick owes is $100k but coming up with even part of the money will help buy him more time with the property management company. In addition, Nick will use the funding to hire someone to help him reorganize and manage the store so that this situation never happens again.
Nick Metropolis must stay on the corner of 1st and LaBrea and keep the incredible collectibles coming!
