Save Our Centre

Nurture centre is one of those places that every town should have, the aims of Nurture Magu CIC are to increase the Wellbeing of our community.

A group of local mums started the idea of Nurture centre 7 years ago when we felt we had nowhere to go with our small children that was safe and clean and nice to be in. We wanted a place where we could go to courses and events and also somewhere where we could signpost to other services, like mental health support.
In 2018 after running from the upstairs of a wholefood shop, we found the premises that we are in now. Its such a great location, central, next to parking, walkable from public transport & fully accessible.
Everything that was done to open the centre, including redecorating, gardening, painting, cleaning, signs, plants was completed by a team of volunteers and from donations to the 'Open our doors' campaign. We had a very successful first few years; some how made it through having to be closed for almost a year during Covid. During this time we moved classes online and opened up the garden for social distanced groups to meet outside. At first the garden space was used by local business as a pop up cafe and then once the centre reopened we heard from customers that they would like us to try to keep the cafe open so ' The secret garden' was born!
We have developed as a centre to much more than support for new parents along the way we have provided spaces for over 150 groups and practitioners. Currently running at the centre is Mama creatives, yoga, Tai chi, Pilates, Stroke physio, massage, Counselling for people with cancer, NHS mental health and eating disorder groups, LGBTQ group, Counselling, Adoption support, Play therapy, Contact meetings. We run the Carmarthen community freezer with Swperbox , Away days food bank, Age Cymru coffee mornings and Toddler group - for free. We recently opened up the cafe space as a 'Warm bank' Monday to Friday 10-3 with a self service drinks station. We have just applied for funding so we can offer a free/low-cost hot meal 3 times a week. Have a look at what people say about us here https://www.nurturemagu.com/reviews
We have had some fantastic times with the cafe and the centre but we have had so many problems with staff and a steep learning curve trying to start up a cafe with very little experience. At the start of the summer we decided to give it one last go. Unfortunately it didn't work out, we have had to close the cafe. The cafe was always subsidised by the centre and trying for so long to keep it open has left us with unpaid bills and debts.
We have managed to pay some of these, but we are still left with a £17,000 debt to the County Council.
At the moment, we cannot pay this debt, we have asked them to wipe it but they aren't able to. So.... we have one last thing we can try before we close the business and centre for good. Community of Carmarthenshire, can you help us? any donation will go towards paying the debt off and getting things running smoothly again we dont need the full amount all at once as the County Council are letting us do a payment plan. Thankyou
