Help Save Ruthie & Alicia
Donation protected
This is Alicia.
Dear Friends of GDRNE,
As many of you know, Great Dog is a non-profit organization that relies primarily on donations to help our dogs in need. Each year the number of pups we rescue increases and sometimes they are returned to us. Great Dog Rescue New England is looking for donations to save two of our rescues, Ruthie and Alicia.
To do this, we need your help!
Last weekend we received the call we never want to get:
The Lowell Police were calling to let us know that one of our puppies, just adopted weeks ago to what we thought would be a good home, had "fallen" out a 2nd story window and had suffered a shattered leg.
The family had taken sweet Ruthie to a vet, but when told the cost of fixing the leg, they walked away from her.
The vet, not willing to help her without being paid, turned her over with her leg practically dangling from her body to The Lowell Humane Society. The Humane Society scanned her, found her microchip and immediately called us. Thank you! Within hours Ruthie was picked up and rushed her to Andover Animal Hospital where the wonderful doctors were able to rush her surgery and by doing so, save her leg!
Another wonderful employee of Andover Animal Hospital will now foster her until she is fully healed and ready for a forever home. We do all our best to find only the best homes for our babies. But, sometimes we fail. What has happened to Ruthie breaks our heart.
Alicia:
Alicia is a beautiful young flat-coated retriever momma of four puppies and an orphan that she raised as hers. Poor Alicia was shot in the leg while a stray in Tennessee. A bullet broke her back-leg and another is lodged under the her skin on her back.
Alicia was pregnant and injured when she was pulled from a kill shelter in TN and brought to MA. Alicia is heartworm positive and will have to undergo treatment before her leg can be repaired as there is concern about the stress on her heart if done before treatment. She is the sweetest momma you could imagine and makes everyone she meets fall in love with her.
Alicia is currently living at a foster home with her puppies. Now that she is no longer nursing her puppies, she will start her heartworm treatment. As I write this, Alicia is at Andover Animal Hospital for more x-rays to determine how to stabilize the leg until she is well enough for surgery.
We are determined to get the girls everything they need for a full recovery. Of course, this comes at a huge cost and our small rescue is scraping to pull together the funds.
If you can please help contribute to Ruthie and Alicia's surgery and the cost of Ruthie's physical therapy during recovery, we can work together to make sure that from here forward Baby Ruthie and Momma Alicia have the BEST life possible.
Even small donations count. No amount is too small.
As a 501 (c)(3) registered charity, donations are generally tax deductible. Please see your state tax laws for specifics. Also, many employers provide employee matching gifts which is a great way to double your donation.
