Scott needs a HERO. Please help him save his leg.

Hi, I'm Liz. This is about my best friend, Scott. He's got some bad stuff going on medically it's really messed up a lot of things. He needs help. I'm looking for a hero or two out there. Maybe that's you.

Scott has been in the hospital for a month... this time. He came in nearly dead from the latest MRSA infection that took over his bloodstream, and they were able to fight it back after some tough battles with heavy-duty antibiotics, but he just had to give up part of his foot, and he's really anxious right now and struggling to accept that... They haven't even finished the surgery... it's a gaping hole open wound that hasn't even been closed up yet. He's really hurting right now. Physically and emotionally. Calls me crying every day lately.

He has to stay completely off it, has a wound vac he has to wear 24/7 and travel to his wound care doctor three times a week for the next several months. If he doesn't, the chances are extremely high that instead of just part of his foot he's going to lose his leg. He's pretty terrified about that.

Scott is autistic, diabetic, has a long-term spine injury, and has been in and out of hospitals for years, since a surgery on a sudden tumor growth on his neck, right on top of his carotid artery ..

released zillions of evil bacteria into his bloodstream just like this MRSA infection did this month... and that, plus 2 strokes and countless diabetic ulcers and infections made him so. severely sick he has been confined to bed for most of the last 8 years... Lately, just when it seemed his health was returning enough for him to finally get back to work and rebuild himself as a consultant, he just kept getting slammed with back-to-back infections from ulcers formed due to complications from diabetes...

And they just found a growing cyst/tumor on his sacrum that is extremely painful so that he hasn't even been able to sit straight or lay flat, has to stay on his side. The surgeon said they're going to keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if it keeps growing, and see if there's a plan to try to remove it. Because of the growth and because cancer runs in the family, he's very scared of that and the pain is just overwhelming.

Almost 2 weeks in the ICU just back in December, then overnight at the beginning of January, this MRSA thing rose up and just went swimming all through his bloodstream... and if he had gotten to the ER just a few hours later, they said, it would have overtaken his heart, they would have had to do open heart surgery with a very very grim prognosis... Thankfully they were able to get him on the right antibiotics, FAST, so that saved his life and all it cost him so far this time was a big chunk of his foot in his second amputation, and 4th surgery....

ALL ON JUST THAT FOOT... he's had to deal with way more surgeries through the rest of him, literally from head to toe, starting with that tumor that grew up right under his chin and was on track to strangle his carotid... to all these operations on his feet, with major surgeries to his spinal cord and belly...

(he says this is about the 5th time this same hospital has saved his life... he actually died twice there back in 2020, while in a diabetic coma, and they were able to bring him back)

Now he's been in the hospital for a month on this one and we're not sure when they'll let him go home... Except for trips for MRIs and surgeries, he's been confined to the same room the whole time... because of the MRSA, he's on isolation and anybody coming in the room has to put on all this protective gear...

he hasn't had a shower the entire time because the rooms on his floors don't have showers and they won't let him leave the room or use the floor shower because they have to contain the germ to protect all the other patients... He's very frustrated and said he's really starting to hate those hospital wipes they give him instead...

Instead of getting back to the consulting work he used to do and was planning to finally return to this month...

he's been thrown yet another monkey wrench because of his health....

and for the next several months is absolutely forbidden from walking... even just a little... or they said he's going to lose his whole leg below the knee, at least...

He has so much debt already from all his medical misadventures... now he needs full-time caregivers again to help with everything and help him get around while this amputation heals enough for him to do things for himself again. His insurance has been denying all kinds of things the doctors recommend, and refusing to pay much of the bills leaving him responsible for the balances... and he can't even get himself to open the letters anymore from doctors and hospitals telling him how much he now owes because insurance denied this or that payment... because he has no way he can make that up right now...

and he is trying to make it on a tiny disability income he is desperate to replace with real income from getting back to work and is so frustrated because he keeps getting knocked down by this health stuff and his work keeps getting pushed back...

Anyway, he doesn't have any way to hire caregivers or take care of so much other stuff he's left holding the bag on because insurance won't hold up their end.... without your help.

He's got so much medical debt and now has to have ongoing wound care and all kinds of outpatient stuff 4 to 5 days a week, and caregivers full time to help take care of him and help him get around, in the house, and to go meet with clients and doctors and everything else.

He's been through so much... he just hates asking for help and he was really reluctant about letting me set this up, but I pointed out all the things that are building up that he can't handle right now without help... and he finally agreed to let me do this...

Can you please help my friend Scott? The money will go towards bills and groceries, prescriptions and medical equipment, wound care, transportation to doctors and other necessities, medical debt, medicine, and nutrition, and hiring caregivers full-time to help him get through this latest crisis and handle life and work and the thousand other things that just seem to keep hitting as a result of all this.

If you can donate to help, please do what you can, and it means the world to us... bless you. If you can't afford to donate, I understand... times are tough for lots of us.. but you can still help by sharing this with your own friends and acquaintances... maybe one of them might be able to, and you will have done a great thing to help my friend get back on his feet... LITERALLY! I thank you and bless you either way.

He wants to go home so bad... but he's really scared about that too because he's going to need so much help and doesn't know how he can afford it... or how he'll make it without people helping him with almost everything right now and for the next few weeks and months...

Scott really needs a hero right now... Will that be you?

Thank you,

Liz Mizell
