Help Keep Takehome QTBIPOC Arts House Afloat!
Donation protected
We are Takehome QTBIPOC Arts House, an artist run centre located on Treaty 1 territory that serves to uplift, develop, and serve QTBIPOC (Queer Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) artists and the community. In Manitoba, we are the only space of our kind. In a time where QTBIPOC are being hatefully targeted more than ever, we are fighting to keep the few spaces we have left specifically for our community.
We are a group of 6 volunteer co-directors (Hassaan, Sappfyre, Nancy, Andrew, Iyunade, and Bria) who dedicate our time to maintaining this space. All of our members are BIPOC cultural workers and artists.
As a volunteer-run group, we have faced some recent financial challenges in keeping our space afloat. It has been a volatile and difficult year, and we are now on the path to rebuilding and fortifying the foundation of Takehome with new and exciting opportunities. As of this past summer, we are no longer under a broader arts organization, and now operate entirely in our own.
We are looking to raise money to help cover rental costs and other administrative expenses that we have incurred over the past year. As volunteers, we pocket none of the money that is made through space rental, grants, and residencies. All funds will always be reinvested into Takehome and the QTBIPOC artist community (ie artist fees).
More About Takehome
Currently, we operate out of the historic Artspace building in the Winnipeg Exchange District. This space, for the past 4 years, has been home to so much incredible work, including artist residencies, workshops, gallery installations, performances, community gatherings, and has become a central meeting hub for various BIPOC organizations across the city. We frequently collaborate with incredible arts organizations like the Black Film Collective, Send+Receive, Videopool, and community organizations like Anakbayan Manitoba and the Youth Climate Lab.
Part of our mandate as a collective is to limit the barriers that emerging BIPOC artists face within the arts world. We provide low-to-no cost space rentals, and provide residency opportunities through grants, such as our current joint residency with Videopool.
Takehome is a very special place for the Winnipeg BIPOC community, and we hope to be able to continue this space for as long as possible. This fundraiser will help us build the financial confidence to restructure into a sustainable model that will allo us to continue serving the community in a radical way.
Thank you for your support.
