URGENT:Save the Animals at Soy Callejerito Shelter
URGENT!! More than 150 animals need our help -The fate of these precious souls are in our hands!
Soy Callejerito, a registered non-profit animal shelter in Cusco, Peru is in DIRE need of our
help! Due to the termination of the shelters rental contract, Maite and her 145 dogs, 18 cats and 1 horse have been given only 3 months to completely move to a new piece of land and reconstruct everything!

Our goal is to finally be able to buy a piece of land and construct a new, more sustainable shelter for Maite and all the beloved animals so they are not forced back onto the streets! In addition, we will be fighting the deep rooted issue in Peru. The alarming amount of street animals is just disturbing to say the least. We will create an onsite vet clinic that delivers free spay and neuters for the surrounding pueblos.
In total to buy Land and Construct it is around 120,000 USD!
It is so expensive in Cusco because the city is located in the center of the Andes Mountains. This makes it EXTREMELY difficult to receive and export anything. Also, the land is being sold at an exponentially fast rate which means pricing is sky rocketing.
To buy a 2500-3000 sq mt. piece of land would approximately cost 70,000-90,000 USD
Supplies such as concrete, fencing, tarps, and stone is approximately another 20,000-30,000 USD
Her deadline to have everything built and all the animals transported is April 15th!!
THE WHOLE STORY:
The life of street dogs and cats in Peru is a struggle for survival. Once on the street, they are often mistreated, run over and, in the worst case, left to die.
At the private animal shelter Soy Callejerito, the animals have been receiving medical care, food and love for almost 10 years, in short: a dignified life. In addition, the shelter organizes and finances neutering campaigns in the city on a regular basis in order to get to the root of the problem. The shelter is financed entirely through donations, as there is no state support.
Therefore, Maite, the director of the animal shelter, urgently needs volunteers. However, this support has not been available since Covid19. For months she has been caring for the 150+ animals completely on her own, driven by her unwavering love for animals and incredible courage. But the situation is even worse ...
Maite recently received the message that the shelter has to relocate, once again, because the rented property has been sold. There are only three months left to move the shelter. The animals (over 145 dogs, 18 cats and 1 horse) and Maite are facing an existential problem.

WHAT CAN WE DO?
We are Kim from the USA, Diana from the Netherlands and Sarah from Germany. We have all worked at the animal shelter on site in the past and immediately took Maite and the 150+ animals into our hearts. We know how hard the work is and that it is hardly manageable alone. It breaks our hearts to know that Maite is alone with all this work and even more now that she is now facing an almost insoluble problem with the move.
That's why we want to help from afar. The donations are used exclusively for the property, building materials, and caring for the animals. Kimberly will support Maite on site in Cusco starting March 17th!
She will be down the there helping move and reconstruct the new shelter.
We know that the current situation is an incredible burden for everyone around the world. But every donation, regardless of the amount makes a difference and ensures the existence of the animals. Each amount means a piece of land, a part of a dog house or a blanket.
