Ginger Kid Medical Expense Fund

Donation protected

Ewan was diagnosed with ependymoma, a brain tumor, in August 2009 at the age of 20 months. After surgery and six weeks of radiation, he had no evidence of disease for the next three years.

In 2012, right before his fifth birthday, a recurrence was discovered in the same location. He had a procedure called stereotactic radiosurgery, a high-dose, single shot of radiation, and the tumor was shrinking/stable for another 26 months.

In April, we were informed that round 3 had begun. Due to the large amount of radiation he's already had, and the fact that traditional chemotherapy is simply not curative in ependymoma, we are currently seeking trials in search of something that will finally stop this tumor from coming back.  As there is nothing locally, we are forced to take this show on the road. This fund is to raise money for travel expenses to the trials and expenses that insurance won't cover once we get there.

He is a pretty awesome kid who has, against all odds, had the opportunity to enjoy the life every seven year old boy should. With all the dramatic 'breakthroughs' in precision medicine and immunotherapy, we have every reason to hope that something will be both effective AND preserve his quality of life. However, none of those things are in Portland, Oregon.

With the help of our friends and community, we think we can rid our little Ginger Kid of this tenacious tumor and get back to normal life.
