Those of you who know and love Valentino know that rescuing him has been far from easy. Through all of our challenges together, he remains a loving boy who wants to be good and deserves the best chance at life. Still, his brain works a little differently than most, so I’m humbly turning to my village for help getting him diagnostic testing, treatment and specialized behavioral therapy so that he can live his best life for years to come.

On Valentine’s Day, Tino found his forever home with me after being "donated " by his family to a high kill shelter. They had been tying him up on the side of the house for taking up too much space, and they were neglecting and possibly abusing him. When I went to see him, he instantly became my heart dog and is a cherished member of our family.

He is goofy, smart, loving, joyful and sweet, but he is also anxious, insecure and reactive about the world around him and he needs help learning he is safe around his family and friends. When he feels threatened or anxious, he sometimes takes it out on the nearest family member by growling or sometimes even biting those who love him most. While we know this isn’t Tino’s fault, if I’m unable to get him the treatment he needs, we may have to face the heartbreaking decision of humane euthanasia. This is truly Tino’s last chance! Diagnostic work is costly, and I can’t do it alone after all I’ve spent already, so I am reaching out for help with:

 X-Rays for his hips
Blood tests for his thyroid
Consultations with a veterinary neurologist and behaviorists
Desensitization and counter-conditioning training programs to teach him the world isn’t such a scary place

So far Tino and I have consulted with multiple trainers, had several vet visits and have been working tirelessly on obedience. We have reached out to the shelter he came from to no response and shelter intervention programs are unable to help. I made a promise to Tino when I rescued him that he’d never set foot in another shelter or be abandoned again no matter what. We have faith in his potential and aren’t ready to give up on him without a fight.

If you believe in second chances or have a soft spot for rescue dogs that had a ruff start in life, I would be forever grateful for any small amount of help you can provide. I will send you love letters from Tino with so much gratitude for your support. Any funds raised over our goal will be used to pay it forward to other shelter dogs by donating supplies for their care.

 Xo
