PENN-Up for Wuhan
We are a multi-disciplinary team of students at the University of Pennsylvania coming together to raise money for the frontline medical teams fighting against coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Hubei Province in China.
The Coronavirus outbreak over the last 1.5 months has exceeded the scale of SARS in 2003, leading to over 60,000 confirmed cases and more than 1000 deaths. As WHO raises the risk assessment to high, the healthcare workers in Hubei Province are facing tremendous medical demand but with close-to-no personal protective equipment. As of Feb 14, 1,716 medical workers has been infected, including 1,502 in Wuhan; 6 has died. The source of the outbreak remains to be effectively contained; the global threat runs high.
This is a perilous time. The need for public support- your support, is never greater. Your help will not only impact the thousands of patients and healthcare workers across the Pacific, but protect your loved ones and countless others close by. This is an issue that transcends ethnicity and geographic locations. It is a worldwide crisis that is only getting worse by the minute.
As students coming from humble backgrounds, we understand that each and every one of you also have daily challenges of your own. Thus, we would like to pledge to remain transparent and efficient, valuing your every donation, no matter how big or small.
As individuals with deep ties and connections in the affected regions, we are fully aware of the barriers to medical aid delivery in current times. But we have done diligent research to identify trustworthy and effective means to deliver supplies to the most needed places, and will provide timely updates going forward. We ask for your trust and prayers as we all embark on this journey.
Thank You!,
Team Penn.

Update:
Thank you all for your thoughtful donations. Given the circumstances of this pandemic and its effects on the supply chain inthe US, we have decided to directly donate our proceeds to Huanggang Hospital in the outskirts of Wuhan. Huanggang Hospital was one of the most severely affected hospitals with severe disparities in resource allocation for its patients. We havebeen in contact with the leadership and CEO of Huanggang Hospital (Ms. Zhou) on directly donating funds (via Wire Transfer) to the institution. Funds will be spent on medical supply purchases and patient care expenditures as documented by the hospital).
I will be personally withdrawing the funds from this GoFundMe and wiring, via Western Union, the amount to Huanggang Hospital.
