Saving Moore’s Place

Moore’s Place has been an iconic Jersey City community space on Monticello Ave for over 50 years. We would love to keep the celebrations going in 2024, including twice-weekly jazz parties with a consistently high level of musicianship led by world-class drummer, Winard Harper.
As we know, the big banks and mortgage companies are NOT supposed to engage in redlining and other discriminatory practices but they do it anyway, with Moore’s as a perfect example.
Denied these traditional avenues of borrowing, the Moore family was forced to take out a hard money loan to do some much needed repairs in 2019. The Covid shutdown in March of 2020 could not have come at a worse time. The resulting late payments kicked up all kinds of predatory charges and fees along with the threat of foreclosure.
That’s why Moore’s Place has joined the list of bars and restaurants which have not gotten back to the income level and sound financial footing that existed before the Covid shutdown. It’s why we are asking the many fans and patrons of Moore’s to contribute anything they can afford and can give, with no gift too small. Thank you!
