Saving Camelia's Romanian Dog Rescue

Donation protected
I haven’t come across many genuine heroes in my life, but when I adopted 2 dogs (Anni and Sanda) 2 years ago from Romanian Rescuer Camelia Corchinschi, I realised that I’d come across a genuine hero. She has rented a house in Radauti, Suceava County Romania for the last 10 years, where with the landlord's permission she has rescued hundreds of adult dogs, along with an endless stream of puppies, who are frequently thrown over the fence into her yard. Dogs and puppies are then rehomed in Germany, Belgium, Holland and the UK via charities like The Responsible Dog Rescue (through whom we adopted Sanda and Anni).

But she is currently facing an imminent double catastrophe, first from some locals who don’t like dogs and have thrown poison over her fence leading to the death of 1 adult dog and 5 puppies, and second because her landlord has decided with very little notice to demolish the house where the dogs and puppies live.

Romania has huge problems with stray animals, particularly puppies, who are left to wander the streets without food or shelter, or discarded like objects in fields, forests or near busy main roads with very little chance of survival, and where they are vulnerable to starvation, disease or being killed or injured by passing cars. Camelia provides these animals with care, medical treatment and the nurturing environment they need to thrive and eventually be adopted in Holland, Germany or the UK. She does this as an individual, and is not part of a wider organisation which could offer support, so without a house not only will she be homeless, but she will be unable to look after the dogs she currently has, or rescue any more.

As a result of this, we (a small group of supporters in the UK) are urgently looking to secure a safe space for Camelia and her rescued animals (currently 18 puppies and 2 adult dogs, but with many more adult dogs in foster to keep barking at the current property to a minimum). This safe space may be in the form of a more secure long term rented property, or if we could raise enough, purchasing a derelict house which Camelia will renovate into a shelter for her and the dogs. However, we are very aware that people are experiencing difficult times financially, so please don’t feel obliged to donate anything if you are struggling yourself- that is not what Camelia would want. But if you feel able to share this page, we would all be extremely appreciative. And if you are able to give even a tiny donation, you would be helping Camelia and the animals she continues to rescue massively!

Thank you for reading this far, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for donating and sharing our fundraiser. Endless gratitude and warm regards.
