Saving Chicho

Donation protected
Hi I'm Lindsay, and I'm fundraising on behalf of Krista Cecconi and her dog (her whole world) named Chicho. She rescued him in Costa Rica and brought him back to Timmins where she has since dedicated her life to making sure he is happy, healthy and loved.

I'll let Krista tell her entire (beautiful) story about Chicho below, but know it leads to a present day doggy who is very sick, and who would be forever grateful for just a belly rub, let alone help getting better.

When his nose started bleeding last Friday (February 7th), he was taken on an emerge vet visit and was prescribed a steroid and medication based on his blood labs. Even after several more visits to the vet, Chicho continued to have nose bleeds (some lasting more than 12 hours), leading to a high amount of blood loss, grey gums, lethargy, disorientation and a lack of appetite. After a terrible nose bleed which lasted through Wednesday night (February 12th), he was taken to the vet again where more blood work ruled out a potential tick-born illness. Krista and her family then travelled Thursday to see a specialist in Espanola as per their vet's recommendation, where they hope to discover what is making him sick, and of course how they can help him get better.

Krista's medical expenses for Chicho in Timmins exceed $1500 so far, and her visit to the specialist in Espanola is currently estimated to be $3500.

The current fundraiser hopes to cover the costs of this trip for her, to ease the financial stress that coincides with her wanting to save not just her pet, but her best friend. I'm sure even if you don't know Krista, you've seen her out walking Chicho. If you follow her on Instagram, you know that 9/10 of her 1000+ photos have him in them. And if you do know her, then you know she will spend anything she has to, even the down payment she is saving for her first home, to save Chicho.

I'm hoping she won't have to do that. I'm hoping we can come together and help her get through this. Giving anything you can to support her and Chicho will be appreciated immensely, and used to directly cover his medical expenses during this time. If you aren't able to give a monetary donation, sharing this fundraiser or even just keeping Chicho in your thoughts and prayers, is still so very much needed and appreciated.

If you'd like to hear more about this super special dog from Krista, please keep reading. <3

So I got chichi when he was 6 weeks old. A coworker of mine, Jane, brought him down from Montezuma to see us, his litter was going to be drown in the river but were rescued before that with their mama.  Chicho was the last of his litter.  He was the saddest sack, he was this little emaciated puppy, with flees all over and as soon as you put him down he started to whine.  I decided that day that I was going to take him. So I took him across the street to see the local vet, Deanne, who gave him all his new born shots, collar, leash and some food and set me on my way. We walked home that night on the beach together while the sun set.  I’ll never forget it.

We lived in Costa Rica together for 2 years after that.  Id go off to work and Chicho would go and play in the jungle.  As soon as he heard my motto coming home after work he’d run, jump the fence and greet me at the gate. He always jumps up, puts his paws on my shoulders and hugs me. Gives me a few kisses and puts his head in my shoulders, wagging his tail.  This was always the way he greeted me, up until now, because he’s way too sick.

Chichi is my travel buddy.  We’ve moved to and from Costa Rica a few times and in those travels he earned emotional support paperwork so he was always able to travel right by my side, had his own seat and all.  On landing and take off he always sat in my lap lol.  His great passions are swimming, especially in the ocean, but he doesn’t mind a lake and also loves swimming in his Aunty Lindsays pool.  He loves sun gazing, finding the hottest piece of pavement, sand or grass and laying on it for hours watching over his land, or passed out!

He groans and moans like an old man, which always makes us laugh,  He has the most expressive eyebrows you’ve literally ever seen on an animal, and he has the kindest soul.  I always feel like he’s looking directly into my soul when he looks at me.  He’s a lover of life.  He loves human food, especially cheese and buttered popcorn and will seriously only eat veggies if they have dip on them.

Chicho saved my life, and I saved his and together we have formed this bond that can never be broken. He’s my best friend and the love of my whole entire life.  He started getting bloody noses last Friday, where he was taken to an emerge vet visit where they perscribed him a steroid and a medication based on his blood labs. Since then we have been to the vet 2 more times for more blood work and general concerns.  He has since had many more bloody noses, some of which last for more than 12 hours a time, with way too much blood lost.  His gums have become grey, his mood is lethargic and he no longer has an appetite.  He no longer greets me when he sees me and rarely wags his tail.  Its a large feat to get him to stand up or to get him into a vehicle.

After spending the whole night fighting a terrible bloody nose on Wednesday night we brought him back to the vet on Thursday morning where we did more blood work and waited for labs from the previous day to rule out a tick born illness that he picked up, and fought, while living in Costa Rica, 2 times.  When the results came back negative we packed our bags and traveled to Espanola to visit a specialist the Dr. Butterworth recommended.

Chicho needs for you to all keep him in your thoughts and prayers and needs positive energy sent his way.  We love him because he is an extraordinary dog who steals your heart the first time you meet him.
