Saving Hashem's Family: A Cry for Tomorrow

Hello,

My name is Mohammed AlAshi and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend, Hashem Humaid.

The funds we raise will be used to cover the needs of Hashem’s family of 4 people for the next six months. Hashem is a 37 year old man from Gaza who used to work as a web developer. He and his wife have two children: Salah, who is 11, and Sahar, who is 9.

Since October, Hashem’s family has suffered repeated displacement; they lived in a tent in Rafah, and then Deir Al Balah for months, surviving under constant danger and with extremely scarce basic necessities. They were finally able to return to Gaza City after the ceasefire, but found their home destroyed and uninhabitable and most of their belongings either destroyed or stolen.

They have been able to stay in Hashem’s aunt’s house, but their conditions are still dire. There is no electricity, the house is very damaged and no longer has windows, and prices continue to fluctuate constantly. Water can only be accessed one day a week, while drinking water is even harder to get: Hashem has to travel about a kilometer for it. On top of this, internet connection is weak, which makes it hard to communicate and impossible for Hashem to look for any work that might help him provide for his family.

For over a year now, Hashem and his family have fought to survive. By donating, you can help provide them with some stability in the face of constant changes and danger, and support Hashem and his wife as they take care of their young children.

COST BREAKDOWN

DAILY COSTS for 2 adults and 2 children:

Drinking water: 1.65 USD

Bread (8 loaves, when available): 9.60 USD

Vegetables or rice (including oil and spices): 10.97 USD

Cooking gas or firewood: 2.74 USD

Snacks for the children: 1.65 USD

Dinner and breakfast (canned goods, za'atar, fava beans, feta cheese, or simple salads): 3.71 USD

Fruits or sweets (when available, not daily): 5.48 USD

Medicine, clothes, shoes, blankets, plastic cups/plates, and school supplies: 8.23 USD

Total: 55 USD per day = 1650 USD per month.

They receive monthly funds from the campaign, which are transferred to Hashem's bank account by Mohammed. Hashem has to pay a commission of 20% on the amount withdrawn when he takes out cash from the bank.

Total transfer fees: 1980 USD

GoFundMe fees (4%): 475 USD

TOTAL for 6 months: 12,355 USD or 12,100 EUR

This cost breakdown might not be entirely accurate as prices continue to fluctuate and new unexpected changes can happen everyday. It is based on the current prices and the necessities of Hashem’s family thus far.

As of March 2025, 〜6,600 euros have been raised, and most of them have had to be spent on necessities or to cover GFM and transfer fees. The cost breakdown is for funds that need to be raised in addition to these 6,600.
