Get this play onstage—Micki Shelton’s La Posada!
Tax deductible
Hey there, I’m playwright Micki Shelton. Director Kate Hawkes and I are raising money to produce La Posada at the historic Elks Theatre in Prescott, Arizona. Sponsorship by The Artist’s Path, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 arts organization, means your donation is tax-deductible.
WHAT:
La Posada Hotel and Gardens in Winslow, Arizona, designed by groundbreaking architect Mary Jane Colter, opened in 1929, but closed a mere 27 years later and fell into neglect. In the 1990s, an unlikely couple—peace activist Allan Affeldt and artist Tina Mion—brought it back to life. This is their story.
We ask you to support this timely, uplifting theatre experience, brought to life by actors, projection, staging, and costumes.
With donations made here, along with checks given directly to The Artist's Path, we have reached our First Goal of raising $5,000, which guarantees essential technical aspects of Set, Lighting, Projection, and Sound.
We are now thrilled to report that because generous local businesses have given us $3,000 in in-kind donations, we are able to reduce the Second Half of our fundraising campaign from $15,000 to $12,000. This Second Goal guarantees small stipends for our Artistic Personnel (Actors, Director, and Stage Manager) as well as Costumes, Props, Marketing, and Promotion.
WHO:
Tina Mion, the artist, uses art to reveal history; and Allen Affeldt, a peace activist who worked internationally to calm animosity between hostile superpowers, took on an impossible task. Together they had the vision and skills to take an abandoned, forgotten dream and recreate it as a vibrant, beautiful setting for all to visit and explore today.
WHY:
The events of the last few years and the more recent international upheavals call for uplifting stories like those of La Posada. The struggle, commitment, and joy of creating something new from the ashes of history is an inspiring guide for all of us today. Please join us in getting this play onstage.
CALL TO ACTION:
Support La Posada—The Stage Play.
Meeting our initial goal of $5,000 was the flagship for raising the next $12,000.
For those who can make a large donation toward taking us over the line, you will be given special acknowledgment as a Producer, Associate Producer, or Supporting Partner, depending on the amount.
