Saving Lorenzo's Legs
Donation protected
Lidia and her partner Lenny have found themselves in one of the hardest situations a parent can imagine. Despite a completely healthy pregnancy with zero complications or warnings, their precious baby boy Lorenzo was born last April 2022 with a rare congenital limb deficiency known as Tibial Hemimelia where, in his case, the tibia, kneecaps, and ankles are missing in both legs. While there are varying degrees of severity of this condition, Lorenzo is the worst case possible - with statistics of only one in five million. Without the tibia, which is the larger, weight-bearing shinbone in the leg, Lorenzo won’t be able to stand or walk. The diagnosis was devastating and they were heartbroken.

After being told by doctors in Canada that their only option was amputation, Lidia and Lenny took matters into their own hands by researching and traveling for consultations with specialists around the world. The good news is they found and met with a doctor who can help, promising to not only save Lorenzo’s legs but also provide 90% function through a series of consecutive surgeries. The bad news is the doctor is located in Dubai, where they’ll need to stay for close to a year while Lorenzo undergoes these surgeries and constant physical therapy.

Like any parents, Lidia and Lenny are willing to do whatever it takes to get their son the help he needs to be able to walk. In this case it means completely uprooting their lives and moving across the world where they’ll need to be on a medical Visa and won’t be able to work. All in, the total cost of medical expense is approximately $1.5M. None of this is covered by insurance so it needs to be paid fully out of pocket, and in full before they will schedule any of the surgeries. Unfortunately, time is of the essence since successful treatment for this condition is precise based on age and growth. Lorenzo needs to start these surgeries by October 2023.

Lorenzo is a sweet and happy baby bringing joy to all who have the pleasure of meeting him. He has also provided his parents with the strength and motivation to focus on the future and find the best option. While he does not understand at this point and is able to crawl, he is also very eager to stand and walk. We are reaching out to family, friends, and anyone who may be able to help. All funds raised will go directly to Lorenzo’s medical care. With your support, we hope Lorenzo will be walking by this time next year! Please consider donating and/or sharing this link so that together we can save Lorenzo’s legs. Any help is greatly appreciated.
