Saving Ethel (and Lucy) rescued from a puppy mill
Donation protected
Hello my name is Nicole and I am here asking for help adopting one of my foster pets that was rescued from a puppy mill.
I cannot even begin to describe the conditions and treatment that they were apparently in for so long! These two sweet girls had gone thru hell and back. I couldn’t even breathe or look at them without them running for their lives to hide. They barely understood eating out of a dish let alone safety and love.
After a couple weeks they finally started to allow me to touch them, bath, and even put them in their first pair of pjs! The one thing that seemed very apparent was how attached they seemed to be to each other. The rescue agency said they’d never met until their rescue and even were from different mills. I kept insisting how much I had a feeling they really were meant to be together based on so many things I saw. They truly relied on each other and took cues from each other when learning to understand their new safe and unconditionally loving home.
I’ve named them Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz after/in memory of Yogi’s (my 17 1/2yr old four legged wee master that I’ve recently lost) favourite show. As the girls started settling into their real authentic selves the iconic duo just seemed to fit these two darlings personalities as well. My best friend was so wonderful in adopting Lucy for me while I was recovering from surgery last month since she’s insanely attached to me but now these two truly are a package deal just like the real Lucy and Ethel.
Sadly now the clock is ticking for Ethel getting placed into a permanent home and the idea of her leaving Lucy and I just kill’s me as I work hard and being able to pay for her adoption in the past wouldn’t have even been a second thought but 2023 was a never ending stomping on my head while I was drowning type situational year. These two girls really saved me as much as I’ve saved them. The emotional support they give is as endless as it is pure love.
The money I’m asking for covers the cost of the adoption for Ethel $600, her insurance for six months at $62mo, and to help pay for the first vet visit $325 before insurance reimbursement. Any additional funds will go towards medical costs for her and taking on another foster as I will want to continue rehabilitating rescue dogs.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this very lengthy post and more gratitude than I could begin to express to those who donate. I will pay it forward for decades to come!
