Saving Mr. Exclusa

The Academy of Medical Sciences at the prestigious William H. Turner Technical Arts High School in Miami, Florida has molded some pretty spectacular students. From surgeons to nurses to Ivy League students, our alumni are nothing short of incredible. But this feat is by no means a random coincidence; there is one common thread in these remarkable success stories, and that is Mr. Wendell Exclusa.
Mr. Exclusa is a firefighter paramedic currently serving as an EMR/EKG and Health Science Foundations instructor. Each incoming freshman at our school has the privilege of learning in his classroom as he equips them with the professional medical and life skills to be successful throughout their high school career and beyond. For over 26 years, Mr. Exclusa has cultivated the passions of each successive generation of health students at our school, thereby giving each student the tools to maximize their potential. His devotion to the well-being of his students, family, and friends has, time and time again, touched the hearts of all that have had the honor of knowing him.
For us, his students, there is no way to repay his years of kindness and dedication in full - but maybe you can help us. In 2017, Mr. Exclusa was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic cancer. With the help of family, friends, and kind strangers, he has been able to explore different options to treat his disease. But with each treatment, he found that his condition came back stronger than ever, and the cancer has now metastasized to the bone.
At this stage, previous treatments are not able to eradicate the cancerous cells, leaving Mr. Exclusa with very few options. He has been in a lot of pain and has been officially off from work since November 25th and will hopefully return January 6, 2020. He is currently seeking treatment with a physician who has had promising results with treating this type of severe recurrent and resistant cancer. In fact, the physician, who suffered from the same condition, had the treatments performed on himself and is currently in full remission after one year.
We are hopeful and optimistic about the potential outcome of this treatment, and we firmly believe that this course of action is the best chance at giving Mr. Exclusa his life back. But in order to be treated, he will need to pay about $70,000 out-of-pocket towards the cost. If these anticipated costs increase or decrease, we will adjust this campaign page accordingly.
Your donations will assist in paying for out-patient surgical room costs, facility fees, bone and 3D prostate mapping biopsies, pathology services fees, anesthesia service charges, medical professional fees, cryotherapy and immunotherapy procedures, post-operative daily immunotherapy injections, medical supplies, etc.
We are asking for help to cover the cost of this lifesaving treatment and give Mr. Exclusa the opportunity to raise his two beautiful daughters, enjoy his life with his cherished family and friends, and grow professionally with his students and colleagues. Your support means everything to Mr. Exclusa and to us here at William H. Turner Technical Arts Senior High School.
